Gun Rights and The 2021 Texas Legislature

Happy New Year. Welcome to 2021.

The year 2020 was an interesting year, with a number of unexpected issues that had an impact on most everyone. Top of the list are: a pandemic, an economic collapse, a stock market sell off, vast amounts of forest burned and more named storms than ever before.

If that wasn’t enough, there were violent riots in many streets across the country. Angry mobs marched through business corridors and affluent communities, destroying property and attacking innocent people.

Continuing to pile it on; Houston homicides were up 40% over the previous year and violent crime was up over 200%. The world is becoming less safe.

People are concerned and afraid. Afraid for their personal safety and the safety of their families.

Adding insult to the injury: a number of Texas state representatives to the Assembly have pre-filed bills for the 2021 State Legislature to enact laws to restrict our gun rights and weaken our ability to protect ourselves from the increase in violence and crime.

In an environment where our personal safety is becoming less secure, a group of anti-gun Socialists funded by New York Billionaire Michael Bloomberg are heading to the Texas Assembly to pass laws to take your guns away from you.

If you want an example of how such laws might impact you here in Houston; just look at New York, Chicago and California. These areas have the most restrictive gun laws in the country. Have those laws impacted crime or violence? Yes. It has increased the brazenness of criminals, as they have less possibility of reprisal – less risk of harm. No one can fight back!

The proposed filings do nothing to protect the citizens of the State of Texas; they do nothing to reduce crime. Their only purpose is to force an anti-gun, socialist mandate to weaken Texas culture and turn Texas into another New York or California.

Over 250 years ago Edmund Burke stated: “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” As Texan’s we cannot “do nothing”. As Texan’s we cannot allow a criminal culture to rule our lives. As Texan’s we will not surrender our independence. As Texan’s it’s time to stand and take action!

Learn about the proposed bills being submitted to the legislature, and their authors. Find out who represents you in the State Senate and State Assembly. Reach out to those representatives and inform them that you don’t support any laws that would restrict owning a firearm or preventing you from protecting yourself regardless of your location. Tell them to vote against bills that will protect the criminal and put you at risk.
