Trends in Crime

By Ron Mullins and Thom Bolsch

Over the course of the last two decades, there has been a trend towards a more compassionate treatment of individuals that cannot, or will not comply with socially accepted behavior.

Funding for Law Enforcement has been cut.  The respect of law enforcement has been eroded. The justice system releases bad actors back on to the streets before law enforcement can complete their paperwork.  And prosecutors refuse to hold those bad actors accountable for their actions.

If we are not going to promote a culture that respects socially accepted behavior – the laws of the land; the results will be a continuing increase in crime.  And we are witnessing that increase each and every day we turn on the news or drive down the street.

You have to ask yourself; “What Happened?”

There has been a trend in certain political circles, their lobbying partners, the media and corrupt officials to disparage and denigrate the actions of those law enforcement personnel, prosecutors and courts that uphold the law and hold bad actors accountable.

And their actions are influencing a public constituency that is not paying attention.

Politicians may talk big on crime; but their actions lack support for the judicial system, turn a blind eye to the deterioration of the mental health infrastructure and allow; no, promote a culture of lawlessness which is the reason crime is escalating.

Elected officials, political advocates, lobbyist and media want to blame it on firearms.  They are exploiting the tragedies of events as a foundation to promote an anti-gun, anti-freedom agenda as we quietly slip towards a government led by socialists.

While they push for “responsible” gun laws, they ignore the fact that it is the irresponsible actor that puts the firearm out front for their exploitation.

The very reference to “law-abiding gun owner” should make it clear; it is not the gun owner at fault here.  We’re law abiding!  Nor is it the gun!  The gun does not work without someone loading it, pointing it and pulling the trigger.

A question we should be asking is who do those elected officials, political advocates and the media represent?  Us, the law-abiding citizens; or the criminal element they seem to be accommodating?   I think you know the answer to that question…

Those elected officials have a responsibility to administer the infrastructure of the government for the benefit of the citizens as a whole; not dictate the actions or control the people that elected them to office catering to the special interest few.  They are caretakers of the government.  They are responsible to, and accountable to us for the fair administration of our government.  Are they doing their job?

Considering the increase in crime over the last two decades; I think we can effectively answer that question with a definitive ‘NO’!

The trend in crime is increasing.  The potential for us to be subjected to that crime is rising.

What do you do?  First, acknowledge that the risk is there.  Next, prepare yourself and your family with classes that focus on what you need to do.  Then, take action on what you learn.   Whether it’s just an awakening on the issue, a self-defense class or a defensive firearms class; take the action needed to respond to the growing threat.

And finally, VOTE.  Understand the platform of the officials we elect to hold office.  Are they focused on what’s in the best interest of the population as a whole; or are they catering to a privileged few?

While we support our local law enforcement officials; they cannot be everywhere all the time.  With that to consider; it is our responsibility to ensure the safety and security of our family.  Sign up to improve your firearm fundamentals with a basic or advanced class.  If you’re going to carry a firearm in public, learn the laws of carry by taking a License to carry class.

These classes and more are available at Saddle River Range.  Come in, bring your gun and practice.  Firearm skills are perishable. In today’s environment; you can’t let your skill deteriorate.
