Range Rules
General Safety
- Treat every firearm as if it is loaded at all times, regardless of whether you believe it to be unloaded.
- Never point a firearm at anything you are not willing to destroy. Muzzles must always be pointed downrange.
- Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target and you have made the decision to shoot.
- Know your target and what is beyond it. Be certain of your target before pulling the trigger.
- Eye and ear protection must be worn at all times on the range — no exceptions.
- All shooters must sign a liability waiver before using the range. First-time visitors must complete this before entering range areas.
Range Conduct
- Only one shooter per lane unless additional shooters have paid and checked in at the counter.
- Rapid fire is permitted at Saddle River Range. We welcome dynamic shooting — many of our guests choose us specifically because we allow rapid fire.
- Firearms must remain unloaded and in a case or holster until you are at your assigned lane and ready to shoot.
- Firearms must be unloaded when leaving the range area — except for licensed concealed carriers who may re-holster a loaded firearm at the lane before exiting.
- Shooters must remain in their assigned lane at all times. Do not reach into or shoot across adjacent lanes.
- Ceasefire immediately when instructed by range staff. All RSO commands must be followed without question.
- No alcohol or drugs before or during range use. Anyone appearing impaired will be removed immediately.
Targets
- Only paper targets are permitted on our ranges. Targets must be hung on the provided target holders.
- No glass, cans, bottles, or hard objects of any kind may be used as targets.
- Targets depicting real people or offensive imagery are not permitted.
- Shoot only at your own target. Do not shoot at range equipment, target carriers, or the range structure.
- Maximum distance is 25 yards on all standard lanes. Private suites may have different configurations.
Age Requirements
- Shooters must be 18 years or older to shoot without a parent or legal guardian present.
- Shooters must be 21 years or older to rent handguns from our rental fleet.
- Minors may shoot with a parent or legal guardian present at all times. The adult is responsible for the minor's safety and conduct.
- Minimum age is 10 years old to shoot on the range with parental supervision.
Holster & Draw
- Drawing from a holster is permitted only after completing a Holster Qualification with a Range Safety Officer.
- Holster qualification is a brief RSO-conducted assessment. Ask at the front counter to schedule.
- Only retention holsters or quality kydex/leather holsters are permitted. Soft holsters and bags are not permitted for drawing practice.
Malfunctions & Emergencies
- If you experience a malfunction, keep the firearm pointed downrange and wait 30 seconds before attempting to clear it.
- For a squib load (reduced report, felt resistance) — stop immediately, keep muzzle downrange, and call for RSO assistance.
- In case of emergency, call a ceasefire and alert range staff immediately.
- If you hear "Ceasefire" — stop shooting immediately, unload, and wait for RSO instructions.
