Judgmental Use Of Force

This class will teach students Texas laws relating to Use of Force and will have discussions on proper use of force for different scenarios by teaching a Use of Force Continuum. This will provide the students with options of the type of force that can be used given the totality of the circumstances during a critical dynamic incident. There will be a discussion on what to do after using deadly force and what to expect when the police arrive. After the classroom presentation, students will be put through different scenarios in our downstairs archery bay armed with an Airsoft Pistol and or inert pepper spray.

The student will enter the scenario and need to use their judgment on proper use of force, e.g. verbal commands, pepper spray, drawing the pistol, or utilizing deadly force (shooting the pistol) depending on the instructor’s actions. As an example, a student may be given a bag of groceries and car keys to hold with a holstered Airsoft pistol. They will walk into the scenario as if they’re in a parking lot going towards their vehicle and will be put into a situation where some form of force will be needed.

The student will enter the scenario and need to use their judgment on proper use of force, e.g. verbal commands, pepper spray, drawing the pistol, or utilizing deadly force (shooting the pistol) depending on the instructor’s actions. Class duration 2 ½ hours. No live firearms, knives or other dangerous weapons will be allowed during the second half of the class. Students can lock their everyday carry firearms in our lockers if they decide to carry to the class. Pen paper and protective equipment will be provided.
