Citizen Responder

By Ron Mullins and Thom Bolsch

Individuals come together for a common goal – survival; the foundation of civilization and society.  But also a key element to our individual and community security.

While individuality is important; it’s the collaboration of individuals – the group – that establishes the safety of a community; and the individual.  Remember the saying; “Safety in Numbers”?

But; in the activities of today’s environment; we are seeing less “we” and more “me”.  Is it the beginning of the deterioration of society?  Not necessarily so; but don’t ignore the obvious.

The 2020 FBI Uniform Crime Report was recently published and stated that violent crime across the country is up 5.6% over 2019.  More crime, more individual risk.  Driving a greater need for collaborative support for protection.

As a reader of these monthly posts, you are likely a steward of the public trust.  You are civic minded, family oriented, patriotic and a responsible individual.  This common thread is the basis for the culture of America.  We come together to address the hardships of life and living; while also protecting each other from evil.

That historic culture instilled in you a concern about the safety and security of not only your family; but your neighbors and friends – as well as innocent bystanders you meet conducting your daily activities.

Understanding that you cannot control circumstances, you recognize that you can control your response to those circumstances.  And as such, you know you cannot avoid some events; and must prepare, ahead of time, your response to surprise.

Quoting Churchill: “To each there comes in their lifetime a special moment when they are figuratively tapped on the shoulder and offered the opportunity to do a very special thing, unique to them and fitting their talents.  What a tragedy if that moment finds them unprepared, or unqualified for which could have been their finest hour!”.

You care.  You are informed.  But; if tapped on the shoulder to save your spouse, your child, your neighbor or even an innocent bystander; are you prepared and qualified to accept the challenge of ‘your finest hour’?

Life is fickle and dynamic.  Most of us will cruise through life without ever being surprised by such a challenge.  Some of us train and prepare to accept that challenge even knowing that such a surprise is not likely to come.

If surprised; will you choose how you respond; or will you just react?  Do you train for the possibilities; or will you even recognize the threat when it arrives?

While we have Constitutional Carry in Texas; are you prepared to carry a firearm?  Do you train for the possibilities?  And even if you’ve taken a class in the past; firearm skills are perishable. Do you make practice a purpose?

Check out our training schedule.  Sign up for a class; Firearm Fundamentals, Constitutional Carry or License To Carry, or Defensive Pistol.  Develop those skills, or refresh them just in case you’re tapped on the shoulder!
